Important Electronic Waste Recycling Notice

Important Electronic Waste Recycling Notice

As of June 25, 2008, the Environmental Stewardship Program has postponed all campus electronic waste (e-waste) recycling collections until further notice. Campus departments have the option to dispose of small amounts of e-waste in the dumpster. For large amounts of e-waste, enough to cover a 3 foot by 3 foot pallet, 3 feet high, please contact Celeste Hoins, Program Manager at 864-4703 or email choins@ku.edu. If the e-waste is working and in good condition, as with all surplus property, departments have the option to donate those items directly to a local charitable organization listed here. If you need assistance with this process, contact Janet Mears, Property Accounting Services, at 864-5975. Additional information can be found on the Property Accounting Services website. Preferably, please store the items until a campus recycling option is available.

For security reasons, when disposing of hard drives or other magnetic media, ensure that all data is wiped before disposing of the equipment, especially if it is still in working condition. The IT Security Office has provided information on data removal from KU computers, which can be found on their website. Click here for more information.

Please contact Celeste Hoins, Program Manager at 864-4703 or email choins@ku.edu with any questions or concerns regarding this notice. Thank you.
