Deskside Office Paper Recycling Pilot

The Environmental Stewardhsip Program (ESP) is partnering with FO Housekeeping to implement a deskside recycling pilot project in Strong, Snow, Summerfield, Haworth, Dole Human Development Center, and Moore. Through this project, each person’s office/work space in these buildings is eligible to receive a 28 1/8 quart recycling container for office paper (office pak) recycling. Smaller, 13 5/8 quart recycling containers are also available upon request. This voluntary pilot project funded by a grant from the Solid Waste Tonnage Fee Fund from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE).

Participating faculty and staff need only to place non-confidential office pak in their deskside containers for recycling. FO Housekeeping will empty the deskside containers once per week along with the trash. Please take all other recyclable material to the nearest central collection point and sort accorting to KU Recycling sorting guidelines. We hope that providing bins for each office/work space will make recycling office pak more convenient and remind faculty and staff in those buildings to participate in recycling efforts on a regular basis.

KU Recycling staff will deliver deskside bins to each person’s office/work space on Monday, May 19th. Each bin has a label with sorting information and contains a flyer describing this project. Signs announcing the availability of recycling bins are posted on public bulletin boards and in mailrooms throughout the selected pilot buildings. Collection from the deskside containers will commence on Thursday, May 22nd.

If you have an office/work space in one of the campus buildings listed above, contact us to request additional deskside containers for your co-workers or to trade for a smaller 13 5/8 quart container.

Special Thanks!

The Environmental Stewardship Program would like to offer a special "Thanks" to the Housekeeping staff for emptying the deskside containers for this effort. The project won't be a success without your help!
